Adventure & Watersports Outdoor Adventure Activities Llanbedr (16 miles) Up4adventures Dolgellau Balawatersports (20 miles) National Whitewater Rafting Centre (20 miles) Walking There are many paths and trails around the area including the neighbouring Abergwynant woods, the Precipice and Torrent walks of Dolgellau and Cadair Idris, Wales' highest mountain outside the Snowdon range, for more information visit the Snowdonia National Park website. The Mawddach Trail runs directly past the property, for a more challenging hike leave the car behind and walk up Cadair Idris Panorama Walk Barmouth's most famous walk. There is a car park and toilet at the top of the Panorama road. Otherwise climb the steep steps up the hill just before the Railway Bridge. Great views over the estuary. Mountain Biking serious! We are fortunate to have world class Mountain Biking facilities very close by, with a range of trails suitable for families and also the serious enthusiast. ST.Celynin's Llangelynin medieval church( 9 miles) BRONZE BELL SHIPWRECK EXHIBITION Ty Gwyn Museum (above Davy Jones' Locker),The Quay, Barmouth. Tells the story of the nearby wreck of 1709, and of the salvage operation. Complete with surprisingly well preserved relics. Quaker Trail Dolgellau. Llanfair Slate Caverns (18 miles) Put on a helmet and descend into the tunnels and caverns hacked out by candlelight over a century ago. Fishing Lynn Jericho is a five minute woodland walk from Cefn Coed, license for this and Abergwynant RIver, which runs through the property, are available from our neighbours at Abergwynant Farm. There are river, lake and sea fishing opportunities in abundance see Dolgellau Angling Association for more info. Sea fishing trips run from Barmouth Harbour Cregennan (3 miles) Lake Boating and Fishing Talyllyn Lake (13 miles) Bird Watching & Nature There are two RSPB nature reserves within easy walking or cylcling distance Coed Garth Gell (3 miles) and Arthog Bog(3 miles) Bird Rock or Craig yr Aderyn(12 miles) of European importance as a traditional breeding and roosting site. Coed Ganllwyd Nature Reserve (8 miles) Pubs & Eating Just a few miles walk down the flat Mawddach Trail is the picturesque George III pub which offers bar meals and fantastic Sunday Lunches. There are numerous pubs and restaurants in Dolgellau and Barmouth(see Shopping section below) but 2 particularly well recommended restaurants are Bwyty Mawddach and Bistro Bermo Entertainment Beaches Fairbourne Beach is a 4 mile drive or you can walk down the Mawddach Trail. It has glorious golden sand, rock pools . The end of the beach has a jetty for launching boats/jetski's Barmouth (9 miles by road, 5miles walk/bike down the Mawddach Trail and across the bridge) Harlech (20 miles) Sandy Beach with dunes Blackrock Sands (27 miles) Cars can be driven onto the beach and there is a boat launching area. The sand dunes of Black Rock Sands are a site of special scientific interest Fun Stuff Crab lining from Barmouth Harbour keeps kids of all ages occupied for hours! The Blue Lake (4 miles) is a flooded Slate Quarry that can be accessed through a "spooky" and usually rather wet cave.
