Ancient Oak Woodland

Cefn Coed — which translates from Welsh as “the back of the woods” — is a place steeped in history, where the landscape itself has shaped the life we lead here. For over 25 years, our family-run farm has been a labour of love, dedicated to caring for the woodland, meadows, and rare-breed smallholding, and sharing this special corner of Snowdonia with others.

We’ve always been passionate about the environment and reconnecting with nature, and Cefn Coed is very much a place for rewilding — for our guests as well as ourselves. We see ourselves as custodians rather than owners, choosing not to interfere with the perfection that nature creates on its own.

Here, you can disconnect from modern life and take pleasure in simple, life-affirming things: the smell of earth after rain, the glow of a flickering campfire, the quiet of ancient oaks, and nights of a billion stars, broken only by the hoot of an owl.

Creativity is at the heart of Cefn Coed. On the farm, we combine artisan food and drinks with foraged and seasonal ingredients, served in our small bar and kitchen. Guests can enjoy wood-fired cooking, creative cocktails, and hearty meals — all made with love and inspired by the natural surroundings. We also host yoga and wellness sessions, offering space to restore, breathe, and reconnect with your body and mind in the great outdoors.

Our location is as special as the experiences we offer. From the woodland trails that lead to the banks of the Mawddach Estuary, to the dramatic mountain views of Snowdonia, Cefn Coed is a base for both adventure and contemplation. Walk along the estuary to watch the sunset over the ocean, conquer the snow-capped peak of Cader Idris, or explore nearby lakes and waterfalls. For a slower pace, simply relax in the meadow, forest bathe, or watch the ever-changing light over our historic farmland.

As one of our guests put it, “there is something magical about Cefn Coed,” and in the words of an old Welsh saying, “Lle i enaid gael llonydd” — a place for the soul to find peace. Nothing brings us more joy than sharing our home and seeing our visitors experience that same sense of wonder.

Tucked away along the Mawddach Estuary, halfway between Dolgellau and Fairbourne, Cefn Coed is the perfect spot to explore the wonders of Snowdonia National Park. Whether seeking adventure or a restorative escape, guests return year after year for the wild, unique character of the campsite and the unforgettable experiences it offers.
